SYAO week 9

Well it's week 9 and I'm still going strong.  It's very challenging to pick out four items for embellishments and one technique when you are trying to match colors and patterns.  :-)

So for week 9 I picked these old pictures from when Madison was just a wee little baby.  We drove to Wiarton to take in the sights and found this really cool Willie statue.  Willie is the albino groundhog in Wiarton that likes to tell us how long we have to wait for spring.

I used some filter paper embellishments from Fancy Pants along with a really gorgeous patterned and die cut paper that I picked up at Lens Mills.  The paper had a ton of shiny glitter all over - so pretty.

Isn't this statue cool - hehe.
Stay tuned for tomorrow when the first challenge is revealed over on Color Me Scrappy.  Head on over the website now and look for the design team bios - really cool!

Celebrating 35 Years

I have a co-worker that is celebrating her 35th anniversary with Intact Insurance tomorrow.  I wanted to make her a little keepsake that she could keep on her desk so I asked around for some pictures of her from the 'good ole days'.  I really loved the photo from one of their Hawaiian days when everyone was dressed up so I used that as my theme.

I made an 8x8 easel scrapbook page.  I will have to do a tutorial for you, it was really simple and pretty cool.  The bottom actually folds up inside for flat storage.

I used my Cricut to cut out all the flowers (sophisticated) and the congratulations (everyday pop-up cards).  The leaves are from Michaels Recollection brand.

The paper is also Recollections brand from Michaels - did I mention I picked up 5 new 12x12 paper stacks the other day.
 :-)

I love the way it turned out and I'm thinking that I will definitely be making more of these in the future.

SYAO Week 8

I'm on a roll this week.  I finished my layout for my first design team challenge (you'll just have to wait until April 1st to see that one).  And I finished week 8 for Scrap Your Ass Off over at Paper Secrets.

Here is the sketch for week 8....
The embellishment list was different this time around.  I saw the doily and stick pins and new right away that I was going to do a valentines theme.

doily
twine
stick pin(s)
3+ flowers
rub ons
washi tape
3+ patterned papers
bling

TECHNIQUES
punches (border/corner)
fussy cutting
distressing
I used doilies, flowers, stick pins and bling.  Added a little distressing on the paper and doilies and did some fussy cutting to get the smaller doilies.  I really love the way it turned, simple yet sweet!

Paper is daisyd's, flowers Prima, bling was MMBI and the doilies were my favorite dollar store.

Don't forget to get over the Color Me Scrappy and follow the blog so you can find out when the first challenge starts - you won't want to miss it.

Play along with the challenge and watch here for exciting things to come - my followers are growing and views are increasing like crazy - looks like I might have to have some blog candy soon :-)

SYAO week 7

Today was the deadline for week 7 of Scrap Your Ass Off.  I got mine done with 6 hours to spare til the deadline.  I was rushing last night when I posted it to the forum just before I ran off to emerg with Madison to get her foot checked out.  Madison tripped at school yesterday and had been limping around.  Well after 2 hours in emerg we came home with Madison's new friend "The Boot".  Yes she broke her foot.

I felt bad because I kept asking her to wait while I finished uploading the picture because I didn't want to miss my deadline.  But I just thought she had twisted it, not actually broken.

The challenge for week 7 was a sketch which was really cool.  I loved it.  I decided to finally pull out some of my photo's from Vegas and immediately thought of My Mind's Eye Lost and Found.  I think I've been hoarding this paper, afraid to use it.

I really love the way it turned out though.  I used Bling, Trim, Staples and 3+ patterned paper for the embellishments and then distressing for the technique.  That leaf trim has been in my stash for a while also, really, really love how it turned out.

All the patterned papers are from the Lost and Found paper stack.  Trim was just miscellaneous.  The flourishes are from spellbinders and then some bling from Want 2 Scrap.

Two Exciting Things to Share

I am so excited to share that I was chosen to be on the design to for Color Me Scrappy.  I'm so excited!!!  Can you believe it, my first design team.  Yaah me!  So stay tuned on the 1st and 15th of every month for a new color and alphabet challenge.  So very exciting.

Next I wanted to share with you the project that Madison and I have been working on all week.  Yes all week.  I've been on holidays for March Break and spending every day with Madison in the scrap basement even though the weather outside has been absolutely gorgeous.

Madison actually picked the project.  She was on YouTube looking at spring albums and came across Paper Phenomenon's spring explosion basket.  She fell in love with it and asked me to make it with her.  She made her own of course but I had to come up with a design for her because Kathy's U-stream videos have been deleted, boooo.

Okay so it took me three tries to upload the video but you can take a look here.  You are going to love it, sorry about the lighting I did it late last night in the kitchen.

Playing Catch-up and a Start to a Crazy Week

Okay so after I did my post from Saturday morning I closed up my computer went about my day, did alot of fun scrapbooking.  Even spent the day with my mom, my daughter and good friend Judy to do some machine stitching on paper.  Came home with a sewing machine all for me so I can sew on my stuff whenever I want and then finished a beautiful layout, took pictures, sat down.  Opened the laptop and starting FREAKING OUT!!!

It kept shutting down, restarting and shutting down.  Can you believe it, I was going crazy.  So needless to say it is now with the Geek Squad at Best Buy for a couple of days and I'm sitting here at my daughters ancient desk top trying to figure out how to do stuff all over again.

Anyways - I realized that I forgot to post SYAO week 5 here on my blog - yes I got it done and posted to Paper Secrets but I forgot to show it here for everyone so here it is.  Again same situation they give you a layout and you pick 4 embellishments and 1 technique.  I don't have the sketch saved here because of course - it's on my laptop!!  Hehe - deep breaths but I'm sure you'll enjoy the layouts and you can always take a peek over on Paper Secrets Forum.

Here's a little close up - this one used bling, paper punches, photo corners and rub-ons and the technique was distressing.
I would have resized this for you but photoshop is ON MY LAPTOP!!   (deep breaths)
And here is week 6 - SYOA - I love, love the way this one turned out.  I was actually trying a layout that I was shown from Amarilys's Scrappy Corner but I took it and used the layout sketch from our challenge keeping her background circle which was punched with a corner punch and then stitched by machine to the background paper.  I really love it.
Embellishments were bling, flowers, trim and 3 different patterned papers and of course the technique was stitching.
My little Madie was so cute in these pictures, she is growing up way to fast.
Well hope you enjoyed.  Next time I hope to have my laptop back and not so much stress involved.
