Girly Grunge Altered Canvas

Hi everyone.  Sorry I have been MIA - I have however been keeping up with posting videos on my you tube channel and am 1 subscriber away from hitting 100!!  Wow, can you believe it.  I am so excited.  I'm going to come up with a challenge for a giveaway so you'll have to check in on my you tube channel to get in on the fun.

In the meantime I thought I would share some still shots of my fun altered canvas.  I pulled out one of my favorite pictures of my daughter Madison from when she was a cute little three year old - my how they grow :-)

I have watched so many start to finish videos and everyone makes it look so easy, it's not easy but it is super fun and super messy.  I started off with a 10x10 canvas from Michaels and put a nice layer of Gesso down.  I added some crepe paper streamers and some paper doilies with gel medium and then added in a full crochet doily that I got at the thrift store - yes on top of being a dollar store junky I am now a thrift store junky.

I took some pointer from one of my fav you tube inspirers - msliberty25 - Miranda is super talented and has the most amazing girly grunge and all sorts of projects.  I wanted to try her embossed tin tape technique - you'll see little bits of it shining through here but you get a good view in the video.  I also added some paper leaves from Michaels in the $1.50 bin.

Once I had all the base glued down and another layer of gesso, I started spraying with glimmer mist.  Now everyone else always comes out with a super bright and colorful project - mine seems a little pastel but the colors are still vibrant in person - it's give a nice shabby look to it.

I embellished with quite a few items from my stash.  Some bloomers trim that I've been hanging on to - okay I'll admit - hoarding.  Some rhinestones, music note washi tape, prima wood clock, I Am Roses black roses and cherry blossoms that I sprayed with my glimmer mists.

And many other various things that I just fell in love with.
I really love how it turned out and will have to do one for my son now.  Definately something that I will do over and over again.

Check out the video over on my you tube channel.  And don't forget to watch for my upcoming challenge.

Altered Canvas

I finished a canvas on the weekend of my super cute kids (not biased :-) lol.  I used a 12x12 canvas and started with a base of 12x12 paper from My Minds Eye which was card stock based.  I added some glimmer mist, distress ink and some stamping.  Then added a layer of texture past that I tinted with distress ink re-inker.  I then embelllished with various paper flowers from the Micheals $1.50 section, some resin flowers and a bird house from recollections.  the key and mini crochet flower is also from the Micheals $1.50 section.  Take a look at my you-tube channel for a close up look.

Color Me Scrappy - Challenge #11

Well it is officially September.  I'm so excited, the kids are going back to school!!  It's the most wonderful time of the year!  (I miss that Staples commercial).

And it's Challenge #11 over at Color Me Scrappy.  The colors were definately not something that I'm used to so of course it was a challenge.  Very beautiful and classic though when I look at them.

I started off by stamping some of the butterflies when I was stamping with the kids.  It was perfect because I could choose the colors I wanted from the markers and make them match the color palette.

I then stamped the lace background in Navy blue ink and added some glimmer mist to the whole page.  I love using glimmer mist but I don't like how it wrinkles your page when you are drying it with your heat gun.  And I'm too impatient to watch it dry!!
I added some lace, trim, bloomers flowers and some polyester flowers.  To finish it off I used an adage ticket from Tim Holtz and a resin flower that I was hoarding.  I do love how it turned out, kinda hard to take a picture though when the glimmer mist is shining through the flash

Make sure you head on over and check out the other design team layouts.  And get your layout added to have a chance to win a great prize!

SYAO Week 13

Yes I'm here with another week and you'll notice that I'm one day early - Procrastinator Sarah is on a role.
Week 13 had a very simple yet elegant layout - I really liked the line of photos all across and remember having some pictures that I took of flowers that were already cut in similar sizes.
 Here the list of embellishments...
fabric or felt
ribbon
photo corners/anchors
3+ flowers
chip-board
3+ patterned papers
transparency
metal embellishment/hardware

And Techniques...
punches (border/corner)
acrylic paint (stamped-brushed-stencil...your choice of application)
distressing
embossing (dry or heat)

So for this one I had these really cute embossed felt flowers that I've been hanging onto and color was perfect with the flowers in the photo - I know you can't really tell here - too much of a hurry to take the pictures and it's late and dark - I used the bathroom cause I thought it was the brightest - nope!!

Photoshop helped but not much.  You gotta see this in person - so very nice.

So my next embellishment was the easy part ribbon and a metal paper-clip.  Then I decided to take one of my chipboard shapes from Maya Road and cut it in half - one for the top and one for the bottom.  I sprayed them with Glimmer Mist and then heat embossed - yes, that was my technique I used - butterflies and the saying.  I had to add a single rhinestone to cover up the hole that was on the chipboard.

Here's my final layout - like I said the color was off from the photo but it is really gorgeous in person and the chipboard shimmers.  Did I mention that I actually used heat embossing as my technique and not my fail safe - distressing!  :-)

Well stay tuned, tomorrow is Challenge #3 from Color Me Scrappy and I have some other little treats that I have been working on that I can't wait to share with you this week.  Maybe even another video!

SYAO2 Week Four

Okay so week four and I am still going strong.  This one was fun because I've always looked at layered layouts like this and thought they would be cool but never tried it.  I'm not super happy with it but I think it was a good job.

Here's the sketch we used...
And here's my layout.  I used my minds eye paper in the background and the hexagons that were layered.  Some old lace that my mom gave me.  Flowers and bling were two of the embellishments I chose and then to round it off I used some rub-ons (the white on the brown patterned paper).  And then to top it off I sprayed everything (covering the photo) with Glimmer Mist.

Baby Teeth

You are going to love this one - make sure you read the whole story. I made this framed 12x12 for a co-worker husband. She was saying how he goes on and on about the baby, kisses all around, naps on the couch together and lots of cuddling. Now Jayda's teeth have been falling out and daddy has been collecting them in a little jar. Apparently he's been going on and on about doing something to display these teeth so of course I say scrapbooking!! So I put together this beautiful 12x12 with lots of girly bling. The background page is sprayed with glimmer mist and cut out on the glittery swirls to tuck the layers into. I added some prima flowers with pearly bling and of course the acid free memory box which was wrapped with some black lace and flat pearls that I got at Hobby Lobby on a cross border shopping trip.

Isn't this layout beautiful?! Something you would love to display on your wall or bedside table as my co-worker assumed it would be. Cause here's the kicker for you - JAYDA IS A DOG!! Yes you heard it here the baby is a dog, the real baby hasn't been born yet, yes my co-worker is pregnant but the dog is number 1 in her husbands eyes. And guess where the framed doggy teeth are?? Well the only picture of the happy couple that they had displayed on an end table in the living room has been replaced with the 12x12 along with a photo of the super cute Jayda and her 6 little teeth.

You gotta love it!

Happy Stamping!
